The point of origin are three iconografic houses designed by Mies van der Rohe: the brick country house, the pavilion for the world fair in Barcelona, House Farnsworth. The formulation of space in Mies' work is viewed side by side with aspects of Japanese culture respectively of space in traditional Japanese houses, assigned to Mies' houses as analogies or ,associations'. Different ways of exchange between Japan and the west are pointed out, with possible connections to Mies van der Rohe. Thus this study can be read connecting one creational period with aspects of Japanese culture and the associated intermediaries between East and West. |
